We’re used to seeing major games inspire one reaction or the other, but it’s truly rare to get a modern Triple-A title that inspires both from such a wide array of people. While there are certainly some (myself included) who still have mixed feeling about New World, it’s becoming clear that millions of gamers have already decided that they love or hate this game and likely won’t be swayed from their views anytime soon. If you’re eager to try the game you can sign up for the closed beta on their official website which will be taking place some time July this year. While New World‘s tumultuous development, numerous delays, and widely debated betas strongly suggested that the game was destined to be divisive, nothing could have quite prepared us for its sudden onslaught of record successes and immediate controversies.

This mode means players can join battles up to 50 vs 50, and take on territory battles against other factions. There are also Territory Wars that players can join without opting in for PVP flagged open-world, which sounds similar to the campaign system in the Elder Scrolls Online. The developer explains that it’s skill based, so even if you’re lower levelled than another player, it will really be down to your mastery of combat rather than your level. This sounds similar to the current World of Warcraft system where you need to turn on War Mode in order to engage in PVP out in the open-world. New World will focus on an “opt-in” PVP system, meaning you will have to activate a flag in order to participate in PVP. It’s described as “more of an Action-RPG than a traditional MMO”, how you position yourself in fights, when you lunge or dodge will all be very important in the game. Scot Lane also explains that the real time combat in New World is very skilled based, if you’ve had experience with games such as Dark Souls, you’ll feel at home with taking on higher levelled enemies in New World. What’s also great to know is Amazon’s plan for the future of the game, according to head of play experience David Verfaillie, they plan to support the game and improve the combat system over the next ten years after launch. Magic is also an option in game but it is not dedicated to a particular weapon, this decision was made in order to make it “more substantial than ethereal.” There are even hatchets which can be used as a typical melee weapon or used in ranged combat by throwing them at your opponent. The range of weapons are not to disappoint, expect gunpowder guns to sword and board. Each have their own particular weapon tree with abilities and bonuses. The more you use a particular type of weapon, the more proficiency you will gain.

Instead of building characters with a particular class based on skills, players will pick their class using Weapons instead, allowing to adopt the playstyle you want based on gear. New World also approaches their class based system in a different way to most MMOs. Due to this tech, according to game director Scot Lane, this will allow them to “to push things in ways they haven’t been pushed before.”

New World will be using Amazon Web Servers which promises a smooth gaming experience for the MMORPG, using Amazon’s cloud servers.
